2021 had been a difficult year for me and I hoped for a better 2022. The hope was in vain. On 24 February, Russia invaded Ukraine, a country where I have many friends, where I have travelled a lot and which I love. I had also planned a trip to Ukraine for spring 2022. It was not possible. Instead, I went to Lithuania twice to take photos for my book “Grenzland | Borderlands”, which will be published in early 2023. However, the trips to Lithuania were more than a substitute for Ukraine. The country looks back on an incredibly rich Jewish history. A selection of the photos taken during these trips can be seen in the new Vanished World calendar. May 2023 be better than 2022!
There are two versions of the calendar for download – a German and an English one. Both contain the essential Jewish and Christian holidays (according to the Gregorian calendar).
Creative Commons License
To provide high-resolution images on-line is always accompanied by a copyright issue. The solution is a Creative Commons license. You are free to print the calendar for privat purpose but you are not allowed to reproduce the images for commercial purposes. Who makes changes to the calendar – translations into other languages or adding more holidays for example – has to make it available to others in the same way as I did.

It is a calendar for 12 months with a cover sheet in A2 size and file features as expected by most print shops. It makes sense to read the data sheets of on-line print shops and to make changes if necessary.

Copy shops and on-line print shops offer economic processing of digital prints. A recommendation for Germany and Europe is https://www.wir-machen-druck.de. They print a calendar in A2 for about 10 euros. I am pleased when users share experiences with other print shops in your countries.

Vanished World 
Wieder mal fantastische Fotos!
Ich war diesen Sommer (2022) in der Ukraine, und man kann durchaus reisen. Allerdings war ich “nur” in der Karpatenukraine, weit weg von allen Kampfhandlungen: https://andreas-moser.blog/2022/08/20/kruhlyj-dilowe/
Aber wenn man die Ukraine von früher kennt, so wie Sie sehr gut oder wie ich nur ein klein wenig, dann ist es natürlich nicht das Gleiche. Man spürt die bedrückte Stimmung, die Straßen sind leerer. Und auch ganz praktisch ist es schwieriger, zB mit dem Transport, weil weit weniger Busse oder Züge als vorher fahren.
Also, es ist nicht wahnsinnig gefährlich oder gar unmöglich, aber bei ausgedehnten Recherchereisen würde ich mich derzeit auch etwas fehl am Platz fühlen. So wie wenn man bei Wichtigerem im Weg steht.
Aber Litauen ist ja auch faszinierend!
